Technology interventions by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Caraga Region generated PHP682 million in sales and created 700 jobs for local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from 2022 to 2024, officials reported Tuesday.

Regional Director Noel Ajoc disclosed the figures during the “Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas” forum on March 25. He credited the agency’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) for modernizing the operations of more than 9,000 MSMEs in the region.

The DOST official explained that their programs are anchored on four pillars: Wealth Creation, Wealth Protection, Sustainability and Human Well-Being.

“SETUP helped our MSMEs boost their productivity and market competitiveness, resulting in the creation of job opportunities and increased income,” Ajoc said.

The technical intervention under SETUP includes funding for equipment upgrades, technical training and business consultancy services. Beyond business support, DOST-Caraga has assisted 760 scholars through its Undergraduate Science and Technology Scholarship Program and Junior Level Science Scholarship Program.

The agency also distributed 83 electronic libraries and star books to various schools and local government units in the region. (PNA)
