Following the “heroic campaign” of the Philippine contingent to the 2023 Asian Games, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office Chairperson Junie E. Cua on Tuesday vowed to raise more funds for Filipino athletes.

The agency contributes part of its proceeds to the Philippine Sports Commission for the country’s sports development program.

Under Republic Act 6847, the PCSO is to remit the proceeds of six sweepstakes lottery draws per year.

“We are studying how we can raise more funds for the flourishing of sports in our country. Asahan po ninyo na (Be assured that) we will do our best to improve on this regard,” Cua said in a statement.

Cua commended the country’s contingent in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China for producing the PH’s strongest showing in the event in nearly three decades.

Team Philippines clinched four gold medals, two silvers and 12 bronzes, finishing 17th during the two-week continental tilt in Hangzhou, China.

This was the Philippines’ highest ranking since it placed 14th overall in 1994 in Hiroshima, Japan.

Gilas Pilipinas finally reclaimed the gold medal in men’s basketball after 61 years.

“Congratulations to our athletes for their heroic campaign. Our country owes its gratitude to you for your proud efforts to carry our flag,” he said. “Not only our medalists, but all 395 athletes who participated deserve all the accolades for a job well done.” (PNA)
