Often heard across the streets in the Philippines, the playing of lato-lato was perceived by an international expert to have a positive impact on children.
Clackers, commonly known as “lato-lato,” is a toy that originated in the United States but gained popularity among Indonesians.
In a local context, playing lato-lato became a thing across the Philippines when it became a trend on different social media platforms.
Despite other Filipinos getting irritated by its noise, clinical child psychologist Efriyani Djuwita unveiled the positive impact that this toy can have on children.
According to the expert, lato-lato can boost both the mental and physical aspects of children or even adults.
Efriyani disclosed that lato-lato brings curiosity and happy emotions to a person, especially when they successfully discover the right way to play with the toy.
On the other hand, lato-lato also sharpens physical skills as it requires hand-motor movements to make use of the toy.
Despite its positive impact on children, Efriyani still advised parents to monitor their children when they play the lato-lato.
The expert highlighted that parents should take into account the material of these toys to avoid serious accidents such as bruises.
Furthermore, parents were also reminded to have their children play the lato-lato moderately so as not to divert their attention when it comes to studying.
