Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) chairman Junie E. Cua has received the Philippine Red Cross’ (PRC) Doña Aurora Aragon Award.

Cua has conferred the award during the PRC’s 33rd Biennial Convention held in Manila on Tuesday.

The PRC said the award is due to his “outstanding contribution to the efforts of the Quirino Chapter that is instrumental in the delivery of life-saving services in communities deeply affected by disaster and other emergencies.”

“I am truly humbled by this recognition. Hindi tayo naglilingkod para makakuha ng award, ngunit nakakataba po ng puso ang ganitong pagkilala dahil ibig sabihin ay may impact ang ating mga effort (We do not serve to get an award, but this kind of recognition is heartwarming because it means that our efforts have an impact),” Cua said in a news release on Wednesday.

“This award gives me renewed vigor to tackle my new duties, which have a much greater scope. But our people can rest assured that I will continue to give my best efforts in serving them,” he added.

Cua also vowed that he would strive to have the same impact as PCSO chair.

The agency continues to look for ways so that more Filipinos could benefit from its programs, he said.

“We want to make the PCSO synonymous not just to charity but also to service and reliability. Ang pangarap natin para sa PCSO, na adhikain din ni Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., ay maging kaagapay ng pamilyang Pilipino ang PCSO sa mga pangangailangan nila (Our dream for PCSO, which is also the aspiration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., for the PCSO as partner of Filipino families in their needs),” Cua said.

The Doña Aurora Aragon Award is named after the PRC’s first chairperson, Aurora Aragon Quezon.

The medal is awarded only to volunteers who have proven their commitment to the Red Cross’ cause.

The PRC recently marked its 75th founding anniversary. (PNA)
