An “honesty cart” was put up in a public high school in Lubao town, this province to boost values formation among students.

The move is in line with the Department of Education’s (DepEd) program dubbed “Project Watch” which aims to restore and strengthen the values of punctuality and honesty among the youth.

Teachers Jazmine Rose Abellana and Roselle Aguilar of Remedios National High School came up with the idea of putting up the “Honesty Cart or Honing One’s Sense of Truthfulness Through Buying and Selling in Cart” inside their campus to promote a culture of honesty and integrity among students.

“The advocacy of our project is to teach students the virtue of honesty,” the mentors said during the DepEd’s news program here on Tuesday.

School principal Jeanie Lintag said they are happy to come up with the project.

“Dito sa amin school, masaya kami na pati ang mga magulang ay supportive sa proyektong ito (Here in our school, we are happy that parents are also supportive to this project),” Lintag said.

Patterned after the Honesty Café in the province of Batanes, the cart is left unattended and student-buyers are expected to voluntarily leave their payment for the items they are getting.

Among the available merchandise at the “Honesty Cart” are candies, biscuits, mineral water and school supplies such as pencils, ball pens, crayons and pad paper, among others. (PNA)
