The Department of Labor and Employment in Bicol (DOLE-5) paid PHP3.3-million in cash aid to 650 worker-beneficiaries under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

Johana Vi Gasga, DOLE Bicol spokesperson, said in an interview on Saturday the beneficiaries were from four towns in the first district of Camarines Sur.

The payout started August 9 for 182 beneficiaries in Poblacion, Lupi; August 10 for 258 beneficiaries in Impig, Sipocot; August 11 for 130 beneficiaries in Castillo, Cabusao; and August 12 for 80 beneficiaries in Poblacion Zone 1, Del Gallego.

“The beneficiaries engaged in 15 days of work and each received PHP5,175 based on the minimum wage rate of PHP345,” Gasga said.

The beneficiaries, wearing protective gears, were tasked to ensure that public places in their villages, including markets, parks, and public facilities were cleaned and sanitized.

The beneficiaries were briefed on Occupational Safety and Health, wages, and signing of documentary requirements.

Regional Director Ma. Zenaida Angara-Campita said in a statement on Friday that TUPAD projects contribute to the country’s recovery plans by providing emergency employment assistance to the informal workers who have lost their employment or livelihood due to the global health crisis.

Displaced employees, underemployed workers, and seasonal workers are employed in community work for a minimum of 10 days and a maximum of 90 days, depending on the nature of activities. (PNA)
