Pantone, the global authority on color, has announced “Very Peri” as the color of the year for 2022.
This year’s hue code is PANTONE 17-3938, a periwinkle blue with violet-red overtones, created with the dazzling screens of our digital world in mind, according to the firm.
The brand-new shade for 2022, according to the firm, has a vivacious, joyful attitude and energetic presence that stimulates brave creativity and imaginative expression.
“As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us,” the release reads.
“The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer,” Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute stated.
Trends in gaming, the growing popularity of the metaverse, and the expanding artistic community in the digital world were among the reasons examined by the color authority in selecting its 2022 Color of the Year.
“As we emerge from an intense period of isolation, our notions and standards are changing, and our physical and digital lives have merged in new ways. Very Peri helps us to embrace this altered landscape of possibilities, opening us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives,” the release added.
The Pantone Color Institute utilizes color theory to evaluate trends each year, looking for inspiration and clues in fashion, design, and “socio-economic situations,” according to the statement, before settling on the color of the year.
