Hormonal Imbalances are very normal for women, there is a range of possible causes and reasons why they happen. It is a difficult process with your body going through so many changes that you did not anticipate, but it is normal, and here are things you should know about hormonal imbalance. Our bodies are complicated and have so many systems and parts running that it is most definitely normal for a certain hormone or gland to suddenly be affected.

Hormones produce chemicals that are delivered to the organs and tissues. They send messages to these organs and tissues on what to do and even when to do it. Hormones are in charge of many things such as sleep cycles, heart rate, mood, stress levels, body temperature, appetite, metabolism, sexual function and more. That is why having too little or too much of a certain hormone can cause several changes in your body like sudden weight gain, insomnia, amongst others.

What causes a hormonal imbalance?
The reason for a hormonal imbalance differs from which hormone is imbalanced. It can be caused by underlying health conditions like diabetes, menopause, pregnancy, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), hyperthyroidism, stress, medications, cancer treatments, and much much more.

To properly pin down the cause of a hormonal imbalance, a visit to the doctor is required. Depending on your symptoms they can ask for a blood test, thyroid scan, ultrasound, a pelvic exam, an MRI, or even a biopsy. After doing some tests, the doctor can identify what is causing your hormonal imbalance and then specify a treatment.

What are the symptoms of a hormonal imbalance?
Like mentioned earlier, symptoms vary from the imbalanced hormone. However, here are some common symptoms. Excessive weight gain, hair loss, extreme fatigue, digestive issues, hot flashes, acne, constipation, hyperpigmentation, muscle stiffness and tenderness, and many more. However, because there are almost too many possible symptoms to count, it is important to not diagnose yourself and self-treat, a doctor can help you with targeted treatments.

Is there a treatment for hormonal imbalance?
There are treatments available but treatments and medications differ on the affected parts of the body and the hormone that is lacking or excessive. However there are natural ways that can help alleviate the symptoms and hassles your feelings, but they’re not treatments or comparable to medication. This includes maintaining a healthy diet, avoiding stress, and keeping your cortisol levels low and making sure that you’re getting enough sleep.

Hormonal imbalance is something many women deal with on a daily basis. It is challenging to experience these sudden changes, not knowing exactly why they’re happening and how to handle it. It is important to keep in mind that with hormonal imbalance, specifics, and answers will be found at the doctor’s office.
