The finalists of the 2019 Nordic Awards eho vying for categories that reflect the Nordic countries’ values of innovation, growth, equality, and sustainability were bared on Tuesday.

“What separates us from other award-giving bodies is that we try to tie this (award) together with the Nordic values: equality, innovation, growth. This year’s Awards strongly reflect the sustainable development goals (SDGs),” NordCham Philippines executive director Joona Selin told reporters in an interview.

Now on its sixth year, the Nordic Awards aim to recognize companies that are excelling in areas that NordCham thinks have a strong link to SDGs, he added.

Selin confimed that NordCham has yet to present the Awards in other countries.

He explained that companies could either nominate themselves or be nominated by others.

“Each year, the number of nominees is increasing. We are eager to hear from them,” he said.

For this year, Selin said, a new category, the Innovation Company of the Year, will be introduced.

“Innovation Company of the Year could be a startup with a new idea in terms of livelihood success, (or a company that could be awarded) for the sustainability of their innovation,” he told reporters.

This is the first time that NordCham has partnered with the embassies, according to Selin.

“Our board of judges is composed of the ambassadors. (By partnering with them), they could help us to disseminate information (about this Awards), and also encourage companies to be part of it,” he said.
