Another 48 police officers recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Citing Sunday night’s data, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Monday said this raised the police force’s recovery count to 19,661.

This translates to a 92.9 percent recovery rate out of a total of 21,168 cases since the pandemic started in March last year.

The PNP also recorded 72 new cases, pushing the active case tally to 1,518 or 7.17 percent of the total number of cases.

Meanwhile, another police officer succumbed to Covid-19, raising the death toll to 59, which is equivalent to a 0.28 percent fatality rate.

Eleazar expressed his condolences and assured due assistance to the bereaved family of the latest PNP Covid-19 fatality, a 42-year-old police officer with the rank of patrolman assigned at the Ifugao Provincial Police Office.

Based on the report of the PNP Health Service, the cop tested positive for Covid-19 last May 6. He was transferred to the nearest hospital on May 8 due to severe symptoms.

On Sunday, he died due to acute respiratory distress syndrome.
