When you were younger, you believed that heroes were those who can fly, have capes, and defeat the bad guys. But as you get older and wiser, you learn that heroes can come from anywhere and can be anyone. It can be your teacher who taught you how to share your talents or the stranger in the mall who returned your wallet. During the COVID-19 pandemic, honoring your heroes with meals, trips or catching up is not much of a possibility, but there are ways to honor your them at home.

Whether your hero is an old professor of yours, your parents, sibling, former boss, or a mentor, here are feasibile ways on you can celebrate them today.

Video call

Schedule a video call with your hero, if you live separately. When you video call, catch up with them, ask how they’re doing, let them know that you’re thinking about them. Relive memories and the times that they have inspired you. This is a nice break for you and your hero from the same routines we have had for months under quarantine.

Send goodies.

If you want to let your hero know your thinking about them but don’t have the time, you can send them goodies to let them know that you appreciate them and are always thinking about them. You can send them quarantine essentials like disinfectant or food. The possibilities are endless!

Create a portfolio.

Think of this way as a compilation of letters. You can utilize graphic design software or websites to create a portfolio. You can also gather testimonies or greetings from other people that your hero has inspired. Choose a design, add your personal touch and send! A nice way to honor your hero in greetings that can virtually last forever!

Send an online card.

If you choose to keep it more personal with your greetings, you can send an e-card! This is also a great way if your hero is too busy for a video call. Producing your e-card can be achieved through graphic design platforms, commissioning a local artist, or buying one from online shops.

Try to act like them everyday.

Perhaps the best way to honor your heroes is to act like them. They inspired you and now it is your turn to do the same. Acting like them doesn’t mean doing exactly what they did that inspired you, but rather be the person you and your hero wishes you to be. Even though our socializing is limited, acting heroically to your family, friends or frontliners can go a long way.

Even if it’s national heroes day, honoring your heroes knows no bounds and limits. You can commemorate them everyday or any day. No matter who your hero is and what they have done to inspire you, it is high time to be a hero for yourself and others now.
