First Gen-owned Energy Development Corporation (EDC), the country’s largest renewable energy producer, on Tuesday invited health enthusiasts to join the first “Wind Rush Challenge” within its 680-hectare wind and solar farm in Burgos, Ilocos Norte to be held on Nov. 12.

In time for the eighth anniversary of the company’s Burgos wind power project, Deborah Melchor, head of its Corporate Social Responsibility program, said Tuesday that the fun run will feature 3-kilometer and 8-kilometer courses and will start at 6 a.m.

Melchor said online registration is ongoing with a fee of PHP350 for the 3-km course and PHP500 for the 8-km course.

She said proceeds will be used to benefit the “Adopt-a-School Program” of the Burgos local government and the EDC Burgos Wind Power Corporation.

She added that all participants will be given freebies and a chance to win tablet and other exciting raffle prizes. The registration period is until Oct. 28, 2002. with this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfXAQayBn3t2LfWA9x9NNm7Z_pQTIu8owiQu9_7HmuEUAkjCQ/viewform

Occupying a 680-hectare site covering three barangays in Burgos, the wind farm is the country’s largest wind power facility. The wind farm generates approximately 370GWh of electricity a year, which is used to power more than 2 million households in the Philippines.

It offsets approximately 200,000t of carbon dioxide (COâ‚‚) emissions annually. EDC is the largest pure renewable energy company in the Philippines, operating 1,186 MW of geothermal, 150 MW of wind, 132 MW of hydroelectric power, and 12 MW of solar power plants, for a total of 1,480 MW of clean and renewable energy.

The company operates in various locations in the Philippines, including Bicol, Leyte, Negros Island, and Mindanao.

EDC, through its subsidiaries, also operates hydropower assets located in Nueva Ecija. (PNA)
