The city government is holding a one-week exhibit dubbed “Centennial Treasures of Zamboanga City” that showcases local cultural properties.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said Monday the exhibit aims to promote the city’s cultural heritage, protection, preservation, and conservation and ensure that the historical past coexists in harmony with modern society.

Salazar said the cultural event, which opened on Sunday at the KCC Mall de Zamboanga, also seeks to develop a stewardship spirit for the inspiration and benefit of the present and future generations.

Among the cultural properties that have existed for at least a century or more are Fort Pilar, the City Hall, Plaza Pershing, Plaza Rizal, Taluksangay Mosque; the First Concrete Municipal Hall of Zamboanga City.

Other treasures include Old Structure in Pettit Barracks, Bank of the Philippine Islands, San Ramon and Penal Colony, Burleigh School (Gabaldon Building), the Pasonanca Park, the Zamboanga City Medical Center, Zamboanga Normal School, and the Old Concrete Municipal Hall.

“The Centennial Treasures of Zamboanga City Exhibit displays the Tangible Immovable Cultural Properties of the City. These properties are considered local cultural treasures for their significance to the history and culture of Zamboanga City,” Salazar said. (PNA)
