Youtuber Brooke Houts has featured her pet dog, Sphinx on her channel before. She’s posted a morning routine and a day in my life with the Doberman by her side. This time, Houts is under fire after she accidentally uploaded a video that included footage of her hitting, spitting on, and yelling at Sphinx when he kept approaching her while filming.

Though Houts has already taken the video down, it continued to make rounds on Twitter. Viewers were outraged at the blatant display of animal cruelty. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Animal Cruelty Task Force has already begun looking into the footage to determine after it received multiple complaints.
Houts has since posted an apology on her Twitter. While she admitted that there was no reason that could justify her improper treatment of Sphinx, she denied all allegations of her being an animal abuser. “Anyone who has witnessed or heard true animal abuse will be able to clearly see that. My dog, in no way, shape, or form was hurt by any action that I displayed in this video,” she reasoned out.

The Youtuber acknowledged that she won’t be able to quell everyone’s frustrations over her behavior but she still wanted to explain her side of the situation. At the end of the day, she wants to move forward from the situation on a more positive note: “I hope you give me the chance to prove that these statements about myself do align with my actions.”
