TESDA To Open Training Center In Sarangani

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Region twelve is eyeing to start the full operation next month of the newly-completed Provincial Training Center in Malapatan town, Sarangani province.

Rafael Abrogar II, TESDA-12 director, said Monday that preparations are underway for the opening of the facility, which is a joint project of the agency and the local government of Malapatan.

He said TESDA Director General, Secretary Isidro Lapeña, will lead the unveiling of the training center on Friday, Sept. 27.

“This is the first of the four provincial training centers that we are targeting to open in the region this year,” he said in a statement.

The three other training facilities being developed in partnership with the local government units are situated in Surallah town in South Cotabato, Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat, and Amas, Kidapawan City in North Cotabato.

The agency is also building a PHP150 million regional training center, dubbed TESDA-Soccsksargen Manpower Development Center, in Barangay Spring in Alabel town, Sarangani province.

Abrogar said the establishment of the Provincial Training Center in Malapatan was in response to the mandate issued by Lapeña to the regional offices to open more local training facilities.

He said the move aims to address the need for more skilled workers in local industries and even abroad.

Among the initial courses that will be offered at the training center are cookery, shielded metal arc welding, automotive and driving.

Malapatan Mayor Salway Sumbo Jr. said the opening of the training center will be a big help to residents, especially the indigenous peoples, in developing new skills that will provide them a sustainable livelihood.

“TESDA is very much welcome in our municipality. We consider this partnership as vital for our town’s development,” Sumbo said. (PNA)
