Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar on Tuesday called on members of the press in Negros Oriental particularly in this capital city, to help push the passage of the media workers’ welfare bill which is pending at the Senate.

Andanar, replying to a question from a media practitioner here during a press briefing, appealed for help to push the Senate to act on the bill which provides for their protection, security, and benefits, among others.

“I would really need your help and if you can write the senators, you can help us (because) we are doing everything we can within the influence that we have,” he said.

The PCOO chief said the bill was passed at the Lower House, as he cited some personalities, including Senator Miguel Zubiri and Senate President Tito Sotto, who have promised to help.

The bill just needs a “little push”, Andanar said.

He also reiterated the plan to establish a government media training facility in the Visayas, similar to the Government Communications Academy in Bukidnon.

Andanar met with the Dumaguete media at a local hotel here to give updates on President Rodrigo Duterte’s “legacy”, specifically his administration’s accomplishments over the past years since he was elected into office.

He and his team will be staying for three days to visit certain local government units in Negros Oriental that have partnered with PCOO in its programs. (PNA)
