Some 2,000 workers from the construction and manufacturing sectors are set to be inoculated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Manila on Sept. 8.

In a virtual forum late Monday afternoon, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the rollout of the vaccination program for workers in these sectors will be held at the Fort Santiago in Intramuros, Manila.

“This will be rolled out on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 9 a.m., at the Fort (Santiago). Our target is 2,000 workers from the construction and manufacturing industries in the National Capital Region,” Bello said.

He said inoculation activities will also be conducted in other areas such as Central Luzon and Calabarzon.

“These are for our workers in the construction and manufacturing industries. These are the movers of the economy. No workers, no business, no economy. So we must take care of them. We were given 452,000 doses of vaccines. This is a great help to the workers, they are free to go to work and they will have no fear because they are vaccinated,” Bello added.

He said the total target number of beneficiaries is around 226,000 workers that will receive two doses.

Bello added that the two industries were selected since they are the major business operations responsible for the growth of the economy.

“They are important industries that needed our support,” Bello said.

The vaccination activities will be conducted n coordination with the local government units in Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Calabarzon and the Philippine Constructors Association, Inc. (PNA)
