The Department of Education (DepEd) Dagupan City Schools Division sees no reason to conduct an academic or semestral freeze in the city.

In an interview on Wednesday, Dagupan City Division officer-in-charge Superintendent Aguedo Fernandez said everyone under their jurisdiction, teacher or student, has adapted to the requirements, citing the city was not directly affected by the onslaught of typhoons that recently hit other parts of the country.

“Hindi nasira yung mga modules ng mga students at lahat ay maayos. Magpapatuloy kami sa pagbibigay ng edukasyon sa mga mag-aaral (The students’ modules were not destroyed and all are in good condition. We will continue to provide education to the students),” he said.

Fernandez said that due to the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, some annual DepEd competitions, however, have been canceled such as athletic meets and school press conferences, among others.

Only individual competitions, such as essay writing and poster making, are allowed provided these are held online while activities requiring face-to-face contact are limited and are discouraged, he said.

Meanwhile, Fernandez assured students and parents of the sufficient learning materials in the city’s division.

The modules, he said, have been prepared beforehand and the number has been properly estimated with the current student population.

“The Schools Division Office (SDO) is ready to fill in the lack of modules if ever there will be any,” he added.

Fernandez said that so far, no major errors in the city SDO modules have been reported but if ever there were any, it would be typographical as it goes through quality assurance before printing and distribution. (PNA)
