The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is fast-tracking the registration of voters before it ends on September 30, as the poll body’s office in the first district of this city continues to hold satellite registration in different villages.
Lawyer Krisna Samantha Caballero, Comelec first district election officer, said the satellite registration held at SM City Davao on Monday was their second mall-based event.
Caballero said they are moving from barangay (village) to barangay to cover new registrants for the Sangguniang Kabataan election.
Caballero, however, said that they also cater to Dabawenyos whose registration had been deactivated, adding that the figure was at 87,000 in the first district alone.
“Registration of electorates who failed to vote for two consecutive times whether for barangay or national elections their election record will be deactivated,” Caballero said.
The voter’s registration is in preparation for the May 11, 2020 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and Barangay Election.
Caballero said the Comelec will have to continue its registration and other election preparations activities as long as there is no law passed suspending the election.
In the first district alone she said the satellite registration has also reached 10,000.
“We expect more will come to avail of the said voter’s registration,” she said.
Davao City had 964,604 registered voters during the 2019 midterm elections. (PNA)
