Every year, book lovers or bibliophiles set a target of books to read before the year ends. Many people have been doing this practice annually and it has been encouraging book lovers to read more. For most readers, the target amount of books to read increases every year.
In order to help the book lovers out there, we have listed some places to find awesome books with affordable prices.
If ukay-ukay or overrun stores are famous for their affordable garments, shoes, and bags, Metro Manila has an ukay-ukay store for affordable books called “Bookay-ukay.”
Along with the food hubs within the famous Maginhawa Street of Quezon City, people can find the said bookstore. Similar to ukay-ukay, this store sells secondhand and brand new books, CDs, and also their own merchandise like mugs and bookmarks. The price for brand new books goes with the similar price from other bookstores, but for the secondhand it goes lower than Php 300 or Php 200.
2. Books from Underground
Who would have thought that there’s a bookstore in the underground pass that links Manila City Hall and Intramuros? Book lovers claim that Books from Underground is one of the most “Affordable and worth it” bookstore. Aside from that, what makes the store a hit is its owner AJ Laberinto, wherein, people find him really interactive and entertaining.

Visited one of my favorite bookstores today. This is an old photo and the store is much more chaotic in real life. There was this girl who bought a bunch of books including Tolstoy's War and Peace, told us that just last week, she failed to kill herself. Now she has to eat a lot of bananas for potassium. She wants to publish a book someday but for now, she'll read. Literature is beautiful, more so once it affected someone's life.
3. Uno Morato
“Cultivating our own culture,” that was what people said after they visited the bookstore, Uno Morato. The bookstore gives highlight to local literature. The store is run by three writers, Adam David, Harris Gueverra, and Carljoe Javier, who also offers new local literature books and pieces at an affordable price.
Book lovers would be delighted to visit the store, found in Tomas Morato Avenue, because it does not only want people to buy books but also to stay and chill. Aside from having a cozy place, the store keeps its costumers by serving coffee, or maybe a bottle a beer.

In terms of cultivating and highlighting local literature, people should also visit the Solidaridad found in Ermita, Manila City. Owned by the National Artist for Literature, F. Sionil Jose, surely, this store has books that contain and emphasize the rich culture and history of the Philippines.
If you’re looking for a bookstore found at every corner of Metro Manila, Booksale is the one for you. Booksale is quite a go-to for book lovers because, aside from having a lot of branches, it offers very affordable local and international books.
